Subject Intent & Implementation
All children at Appleton Roebuck Primary School will have the opportunity
and develop the tools needed to engage in supported conversations about
diversity and difference in the world.
As a school we follow the guidance from the North Yorkshire Agreed Syllabus.
We implement our teaching through the 3 main aims of the syllabus as listed
below in order to develop rounded and independent thinkers in our children.
Principle Aims of RE
The principal aim of RE is to engage pupils in systematic enquiry into
significant human questions which religion and worldviews address, so
that they can develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate
and appraise varied responses to these questions, as well as develop
their own.
Know about and understand a range of religions and worldviews.
Express ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact
of religions and worldviews.
Gain and deploy the skills needed to engage seriously with religions
and worldviews.
Religious Education @ Appleton Roebuck
We have annual celebrations for festivals throughout the year such as
Harvest Festival and Nativity performances.
RE is taught throughout the Learning Journeys and through discrete RE
lessons where there is no natural link to the Learning Journey.
Where appropriate, the whole school joins together to learn about RE
in the wider world, particularly the celebrations carried out by different
groups such as Christmas, Remembrance Day and Harvest Festival.
Appreciate & Appraise Varied Dimensions of Religion

Children will learn about religions, their beliefs, practices and
recognising the diversity that exists within different communities
and between individuals. -
Children will be able to answer questions about different religions,
using the knowledge they have acquired and will begin to appraise the
nature, significance and impact of different ways of life and expressing
meaning.
Know & Understand a Range of World Views & Religions

Children will begin to develop the ability to explain how beliefs,
practices and expression of influence individuals and communities. -
Children will also begin to appreciate and appraise the different
religions as they learn about as well as spotting similarities and
differences. -
Children will respectfully express their own opinions on significant
human questions.
Investigate & Discuss Different Religion & World Views

Children will explore key concepts and questions of belonging, meaning,
purpose and truth, responding creatively. -
Children will learn about how different individuals and communities
live together respectfully. -
Children begin to articulate beliefs, values and commitments and explain
why they may be important in their own and other people’s lives.

The impact of the RE curriculum will be evident in the development of
well rounded individuals at Appleton Roebuck Primary School.
Children will understand other cultures and beliefs in the world and will
also begin to notice differences and similarities between all people in
the world.
Children will be able to articulate their own opinions and understand the
opinions of others in relation to significant human questions.
